1921 Harley-Davidson Model W 600cc

The Harley-Davidson Model W, also known as the Sport Twin, is a motorcycle made by Harley-Davidson from 1919 to 1923. Unusually for a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, the Model W had a flat-twin engine and a trailing link fork. The Model W set speed records on runs from New York City to Chicago and from the Canada–United States border to the Mexico–United States border. Slow home market sales led to the end of production after four years.

The Harley-Davidson WF and WJ Sport series were technically advanced machines intended to appeal to riders seeking good performance in a more compact package than that offered by the vee twins. At their heart was a horizontally opposed side valve twin engine displacing 584cc built in unit with the three speed, hand operated gearbox with primary drive via helically cut gears. The power unit was mounted longitudinally in the frame and acted as a stressed member. With a wheelbase of 57 inches and weighing only 250lbs it was 2 inches shorter and 70lbs lighter than the vee twins resulting in lively performance combined with easy starting and exceptionally smooth and quiet running. The Model WF was offered with a magneto ignition system while the WJ featured battery lighting. Both models were equipped with footboards, trailing link front forks and 26 x 3 inch tyres fore and aft.

This Harley-Davidson Model W is in an outstanding original condition, with original paint, stripings and decals. The motorcyle has the original swedish road registration plate visible on the rear mudguard. This Harley Davidson Model W is in need of mechanical restoration or it could be kept as it is - museal time capsule and could be an outstanding piece of history for any antique motorcycle collection.

There have been very few of this horizontally exposed twin cylinder Harley-Davidson survived, much fewer in such desirable original condition.
